Pierre ARDOUVIN

Pierre Ardouvin was born in Crest in 1955. He lives and works in Paris.

Playing with popular cultural references that he uses as motifs by composing and recomposing them, particularly through collage, Pierre Ardouvin has made the society of the spectacle his favorite theme. Beneath the humor, weighty questions are raised by the artist: social violence, the society of control, identity withdrawal, liberalism, and the end of utopias are elements of his language. His entire body of work can be read as a poetics of banality, where nostalgia, stemming from an illusion produced by the society of entertainment, and pessimism resulting from disenchanted reality are intertwined. Pierre Ardouvin’s works take the form of installations, drawings, collages, and assemblages, whose elements can be scanned, enlarged, covered with resin or glitter. Beyond a bricolage form, he offers true recompositions, and his installations become immersive and theatrical environments.
